CFD 202: Foundations of Group Instructions

Vincent · January 20, 2025

This is a 2 hour course (2CEUs) and is required for Assistant Moniteur (Level 2) certification. It is designed to introduce the foundations of group teaching for fencing to the Assistant Moniteur candidate, however every level of coach is welcome and can learn something new or simply be refreshed.

The curriculum covers the structure of a group lesson, including the warm-up, main lesson, and conclusion. CITs learn how to structure the group class warm-up preparatory exercises, dynamic stretching, games, and how to connect these activities to the main lesson. A central component is the “EDGCC” (Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, Correct, Critique) concept, a framework for clear communication and developing learning progressions utilizing technical, exchange and bouting drills. The course also explores various ways to conclude a group class.

Upon completion, participants will be able to apply the EDGCC concept, identify different types of fencing drills, and design a comprehensive group lesson plan for simple fencing actions. This course fulfills part of the general knowledge coursework requirements for various levels of fencing coaching certification.
