Description:

This seminar is recommended for coaches, athletes and parents who want to learn more about the impact of long-term competitive training and developing good base of knowledge and technique for life-time athlete development. It is 1-hour online workshop presentation and discussion via Zoom. Throughout the last 28+ years, Dr. Summers’ path of experience and education has been centered around sports sciences, sports medicine, academia, and human performance. He began at a young age participating in multiple sports and growing into representing the Team USA in 60+ fencing international world cups and is a 4-Time World Championship, 2-Time Olympic Festival Team, World University Games team member, and 1st alternate to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. From 2013-2021, Dr. Summers was Director of USA Fencing Sports Medicine managing 24 multidisciplinary sports medicine providers covering 55+ events per season and managing the health and wellness of the USA Fencing National teams where he covered 27 Zonal/World Championships, 100+ World Cups/Grand Prix and was the Team Doctor of USA Fencing Olympic Team in Rio and Tokyo. In Rio 2016, the U.S. Olympic Fencing Team ended the Rio Olympic Games with one of its most successful results in history, bringing home four medals as 9 of its 17 athletes stood on the podium over the course of the Games. Additionally, in Tokyo 2021, U.S. Olympic Fencing Team sent a full team of 18 individual athletes and six replacement team members, the U.S. Olympic Fencing Team boasts eight returning Olympic medalists among the six squads. Finally, Dr. Summers spearheaded a USA Fencing partnership with Mount Sinai Sports Medicine Fellowship and is the current President of the FIE Medical Commission for the Paris 2024 cycle. During the pandemic, Dr. Summers founded WEASK, LLC aka “What Every Athlete Should Know”. This is a sports company focusing on providing every athlete with information, services, and processes in order to incorporate their dreams to goals in sport. Dr. Summers is excited to share his years of experience gained about women in our favorite sport - fencing!
