Description:
Why do some fencers execute a movement perfectly during individual lessons but struggle to use it in a match? How can technical training be transformed into a tactical skill that can be applied in real bouting situations? In épée fencing, the issue is particularly complex because observation periods are long, the initiative is often shared, the distance is highly variable, situations are rarely identical to those practiced in training, and the fencer has a great deal of freedom of choice. In other words, the problem is generally not the execution of the move but rather recognizing the right moment to use it and making the decision to do so. From there, we will explore the following question: What conditions enable skills learned in individual lessons to translate into effective performance in competition?
